A Kindergarten Lesson

Kindergarteners live and die by structure and routine. They crave it even when they think they don't like it. Everyday at snack time, we say a cute little poem and then we say "Thank you, {insert name of child whose family provided snacks that day}!". Well, the other day, no one brought in snack (this happens from time to time). No big deal--I have a stash of leftover snacks from previous days, so I just grabbed some from there and announced, "We are having a leftover snack today."

Now, being the little structured beings that they are, they started up with the poem:
"3 magic words open doors with ease, the first two are thank you and the third one is please"..cute...that's the end of the poem. But, then, without skipping a beat, I swear to you all but maybe two kids belt out "Thank you, Leftovers!".

Those are the little moments when I love my job most. It is just a little thing, but how sweetly they said it and oh how it pleasantly caught me off-guard.

Kindergarten Lesson: I want to be thankful like a five year old. And, furthermore, I should be.

"All I ever needed to know, I learned from Katrina." Glad to see your are back on-line. Regular snacks, naps and recess....who wouldn't be thankful? Those days were so great.
