easter

it was a wonderful day--

easter bunny jellybean trail, easter baskets, the kiddos experiencing the joy of eating lots of candy, a joyful church service, a lemon frittata with leeks and goat cheese, a funny easter egg hunt, red grapefruit mimosas, a walk to the park, throwing pebbles into the pond, roasted chicken for dinner

so glad that our friends, rachel and francis, shared almost the entire day with us.  sorry i don't have more photos to document the occasion.  here was my attempt at getting a photo of car and lu just before church:

we did videotape their easter egg hunt.  so, i will try to get that up on the blog here shortly!

the growing list of things that luella finds "a little bit scary"

1. squirrels (she used to love them, not anymore)
2. dogs (sorry gates, riley, finch, charles, riley, callie, kaya, and every other dog that we know)
3. low flying birds
4. cows
5. i think it's pretty safe to say that any animal is in the running.
6. butterflies (yep.)
7. loud vehicles
8. the easter bunny (she sat on my lap for a good 45 minutes after learning that the easter bunny comes to your house when she is asleep...i guess that does sound a bit sketchy)

pretty awesome

we were outside today and luella came up to me holding a leaf and said, "that leaf is pretty awesome".  i wonder where she got that kind of vocab.

life has been "pretty awesome" lately.  let me give you a brief rundown:

*our eighth anniversary...t.j. surprised me with a facial, manicure, and pedicure.  i was happily floored.  as always, we got a yummy wedding topper cake.  we finished off the day with take out thai food.

*girls weekend...a bunch of those lovely wake forest girls made their way out to colorado for our annual gathering.  even bonnie was here (all the way from australia!)  it is always good to laugh and talk with these ladies.  i'm still thinking about some of our conversations.

*my birthday...well, folks, it seems that i am thirty and thriving.  we did many things to celebrate...including (but not limited to) a day-o-fun in the boulder area, a fancy and delicious dinner with just t.j., and getting my ears pierced at the infamous claire's boutique!  i was a bit wary of the big three oh, but am settling into it now.  my mom said to me that when she was in her thirties, she felt as though she could do anything.  i like that.  that's what i'll aim for, i think.

*weather...spring is here!  it makes me so so happy.  honestly, the winter was not nearly as rough as last.  this gives me assurance that i can become a longtime coloradoan.  good good.

*easter...i'm looking forward to this sunday.  the kiddos will do an egg hunt, get some candy (so will the adults), and our friends rachel and francis are coming up from denver to rejoice with us.  how great that we have a holiday to celebrate resurrection and new life.

pretty awesome, indeed.

love this moment

...and then, as with all moments,  it passed...

photo friday

another trailer

this film couldn't have been made fifteen years ago.  through youtube, thousands of people from around the world submitted video footage of what they were doing on a particular day in july.  the outcome is stunning and humbling.  i can't wait to watch this one again.  enjoy!

true/false

i am finally getting around to posting some trailers for my favorite documentary films from true/false.  the first one is called buck.  a lovely story about a really inspiring person.  oh, and be sure to ask t.j. if he saw this one.

literal

we were having snacks outside and the kiddos were very excited when i pulled out yet another clementine from my sweatshirt pocket.  i said to them, "your mama has got all kinds of tricks up her sleeve".  without missing a beat, carlyle came over to my side and started to study my arm.

gotta love those eddys

some highlights:
*hotel!  you know i love staying in hotels.  this one was outside of denver.
*bumming around red rocks park.
*an outing with just kerry that involved me buying an anthropologie dress and kerry buying a set of china at an amazing garage sale
*good thai food
*safeway ice cream
*a visit to the aquarium along with everyone else from the entire state of colorado (as my daughter would say, "it was a little bit scary")
*some roma pizza once we were back in greeley
*playing hearts
*old town fort collins, chick-fil-a, and a really cool park
*carlyle realizing that charlie was the coolest person ever
*luella being reunited with her best friend, maybell
*lots of good talking and laughing with clark and kerry
