You may have wondered where I have been for the past few weeks. Well, our basement swallowed me alive!!! It has been a summer goal of mine to "re-organize" the basement. Unfortunately, in the three years we've lived here, the basement was never "organized" to start with. Soo, I have been moved to change this (really, it was having all these people come over during tornadoes and politely hide their sheer disgust---a five-year-old friend of ours came over and said it was the messiest basement he had ever seen). This project has had many phases--throwing a lot of stuff away, having a garage sale (a very swelteringly warm one), throwing more stuff away, buying storage bins, all of this leading up to our current phase--painting our walls and floors with this stuff called DryLock. It's really good at making our basement not wet...which is great! The fumes that go along with this DryLock guy are quite dizzying and I take lots of breaks. T.J., however, is a complete workhorse and I am amazed and I little frightened that he is high as I am typing this.... Surely, he's not.
Anyways.
All this time in the basement has gotten me thinking about my childhood basement. The two are very similar--dark, concrete, damp, and filled with spiders and creepy corners. Whenever I had to go down to the basement as a kid, I would practically run up and down the steps. I figured that was where the monster was hiding and he was just ready to reach out and grab my ankles...He definitely lived there or on the third floor of our house (which was what my sister told me!!). Luckily, I survived with no threatening attacks from the monster. And, what's even better is I am almost positive there is no monster in our current basement...other than T.J. (just kidding, of course)
So, hopefully, this project will have an ending sooner rather than later...my goal is to set up a little craft/music/art room in the basement when we are all finished.
